Just as with any holiday, many people like to decorate their homes and finding Thanksgiving arts and crafts for kids to make is a great way to amass some cute holiday decorations and allow you to spend some great quality time with your child. There are tons and tons of ideas for Thanksgiving arts and crafts for kids available just by searching on the Internet. We thought we would give you a couple of ideas for some fun Thanksgiving arts and crafts for kids.

Of course, there are a lot of turkey crafts that you can make. One we like is to trace your child’s footprint on a piece of brown construction paper. Do not trace the toes. Then, on orange, yellow, and red construction paper, trace your child’s hands with the fingers slightly splayed out. Make two hands of each color. Cut out everything carefully.

The heel of your child’s foot print will be the head of the turkey and the hands will be the feathers. Arrange the feathers behind the foot print and glue into place. Cut two strips of brown construction paper and fold accordion style for the legs. Cut out feet from the yellow construction paper and then glue those to the body. Have your child draw in a face and you have a fun turkey!

Another fun Thanksgiving arts and crafts for kids to make is a stained glass turkey. This project is easy for even young children and it looks great when it is hung on a window where sun can shine through it. You will need brown paint, a paper plate, brown, orange, and red construction paper, tissue paper or cellophane, and glue.

Cut five or six large feathers from the brown construction paper and about one inch from the edge, cut out the inside of the feather. Apply glue around the edge of the feather and then lay on top of the tissue paper or cellophane. Trim around the edges. Paint the paper plate brown and attach the turkey feathers. You can either draw on a face or cut out the face parts from construction paper.

These are only a couple of the myriad of ideas for Thanksgiving arts and crafts for kids that you can find either on the Internet or in books about arts and crafts. Some of them can be reminders of how much your child has grown like the first turkey we told you about. Make one of these every year and date the back. Then you can marvel at how your child has grown over the years. The thing about Thanksgiving arts and crafts for kids is that making these projects can teach them much about creativity plus, you’ll get to be with each other which is most important of all!

It is a tradition that we accept without question. Some may not even be aware that Labor Day is more than just the end of summer activities.

The unions were the first to celebrate the start of the Labor Day tradition in the United States. A union leader named Peter McGuire, the idea of the cancellation of a day for unit employees to gather in order. On September 5, 1882, the inaugural parade Labor Day with all her jewelry in New York instead, and a decision was taken by the unions to a date between Independence Day and to mark the Action thanks. The first Monday of September was chosen for the celebrations to come.

When the idea circulated in the United States, some states said today is a holiday, even before the first Monday of September has been designated a national holiday.

President Grover Cleveland signed the Labor Day to honor the law. The date was chosen by the first Monday of September. What makes it memorable is that Cleveland is not a trade union support. In fact, when he signed the law, it was considered, some damage to his political career, he ever had when it sent troops in a strike, which was sponsored by the Union of Workers paths iron, its 34 employees Stop wasting life because repair.

In Europe, China and other countries in the world is in May, the first day of May, they hold similar celebrations in the celebration of North America Labor Day.

In the 1950s 40 percent of workers belonged to unions in the United States. Currently, that number is about 14 percent. As a result, Labor Day is more than informally in the summer because of a union celebrated the end of the holidays. Virtually all schools and businesses (including the U.S. government) close to Labor Day, so people have a barbecue before it starts to get cold. It used to be symbolic, too, as the beginning of a new school year, but many schools back in the mid to late August, the day has lost its importance in this regard, although it is still closed for a holiday schools.

Having a budget for the holidays has many benefits. Making a Christmas budget is not that difficult to do, once you understand the basics and apply these basics to your household. Here are a few steps for making your Christmas budget.

When you have a Christmas budget, you are less likely to be stressed out after the holidays regarding overspending, or paying off big bills. You won’t find yourself robbing other household budgets to pay for Christmas gifts. Your credit cards will not be over limit and your savings will be safe. The benefits are many, so get ready, and make your Christmas budget by following these simple Steps.

Step #1 – Determine how many people you need to purchase gifts for this holiday season.

Step #2 – How much are you willing to spend no gift giving (did you have a Christmas funds account all year? if not don’t fear).

Step #3 – Understanding how much you can comfortably afford to spend on gifts is half the battle of making a Christmas budget.

Step #4 Finding out how much you can spend if you do not know:

Find out how much is in savings or Christmas fund accounts. Write down all household expenses including bills, utilities, food and gasoline. Make sure that household expenses are set aside and you do not touch this money for gifts. Any funds outside of these household expenses can be used for gift giving. Do not use credit cards unless you have one that is solely for this purpose.

Step #5 – Consider making at least some of your gifts this year. Especially for grandparents, aunts and uncles who love to receive current photos of the kids, making photo collages and handcrafted items that the kids make, will be big hits that won’t cost much to make.

Step #6 – After knowing how much $$ is in the Christmas Gift budget you can make a list of all the gift giving related items that you need to purchase.

Christmas Gift Budget Categories:

Present

Gift Wrapping

Ribbons and Bows

Gift Tags

Step #7 Allocate the amount you believe you will need to spend on all categories except Present. The amount left over is what you have to spend on presents.

Step #8 Deciding what to spend on each present You can take the total amount of funds available in your budget for presents and divide it by how many people you need to buy presents for an example would be if your budget for presents is $250.00 and you have 8 people that you need to buy presents for, you would divide 250 by 8 and get $31.25 for each person. You may also decide that there are kids on your list that you would like to spend more money on and adults that you can spend less money on. You may have 3 adults and 5 kids to buy presents for and decide that you can find good gifts for $10 for the adults. You would then have $220 to split between 5 kids which would mean that you could spend $44 on each child. You can buy one gift for $44 or split the $44 into smaller gifts for each child.

Summary:

A Christmas budget will help you to stay within your spending means and this equates to a happier and less stressful after holiday season. Make sure that you remember to take into account that you will be spending more gasoline on shopping trips, going to Christmas parties and family gatherings during the holiday season, so keep this in mind when allocating funds.

If you do attend a lot of holiday parties, you may also want to make a category for host/hostess gifts. If you throw any holiday parties be sure to allot funds for the purchases you need to make for these parties.

Budgets are designed to help you spend without stressing too much, so take advantage of these steps now, so that this year, the holidays will be all about having fun with family and friends and less about stressing out over money.

Kwanzaa and Hanukkah, celebrated by African-Americans and Jewish
people respectively, are observed during the Christmas season. The
celebrations are separate from activities related to Christmas however.
The observances of Kwanzaa and Hanukkah are also one reason that people
also give wishes of Happy Holidays instead of Merry Christmas during
the season.
Although both activities are very different and were originated
for different reasons, some similarities can be found between the two
practices. Both celebrations have commitment as a central and important
theme. They also both include symbolic forms of light and are both
commemorated over almost the same number of days seven (7) days from
Dec. 26 to Jan. 1 for Kwanzaa, and eight (8) days and night for
Hanukkah usually starting about one week before Christmas Day.
Starting with its origination, Hanukkah celebrations dates to an
event in 165 B.C. when the Jews were victorious over the Syrians.
Hanukkah started as a way to restore and rededicate the Temple in
Jerusalem that had been desecrated, including its golden menorah, by
the Syrians. The festival also served the purpose of once more
observing and re-instituting rituals that the Syrians had forbidden
during their rule.
Kwanzaa was started 40 years ago by a university professor as a
way for African-Americans and others in the African diaspora to engage
in celebrations that included elements of African culture.
While Kwanzaa is not as popular as Christmas, it keeps
growing and its goal has been achieved to some extent as it is now
practiced in many nations such as those in the Caribbean, which have a
large population of people of African ancestry. The wide availability
of Kwanzaa greeting cards and even postage stamps at Christmas time,
also attests to the extent to which the celebration has entered the
mainstream.
The primary symbol of Hanukkah, the menorah, which consists of
eight (8) individual lights, is very much a part of the mainstream.
Menorahs are available today in various shapes and sizes. A single
standard requirement that must be observed in making a menorah is that
there should be enough separation between the flame of each of the
eight (8) lights so that they don’t give the total effect of a single
large flame when all are lit.
A flame is lit each night over the days in remembrance of how a
small quantity of oil from the desecrated Temple kept a menorah burning
for eight (8) days, when the amount should have only lasted for a
single day. It was that miraculous occurrence that gave rise to the
Hanukkah celebration to light a menorah over eight (8) days.
Kwanzaa symbols include a candleholder and seven (7) candles that
represent the roots of African ancestors and seven (7) core principles
of Kwanzaa respectively. Other symbols are, The Crops for African
harvest, Mat for African tradition, Corn for the future represented by
children, the Unity Cup and the Gifts. The Flag and Poster of Seven (7)
Principles are two (2) supplemental symbols.
These items can be found at specialty African and African-
American shops in some malls and in town with a heavy concentration of
African and African-American population.
Among the most important features of Kwanzaa are the seven (7)
core principles and values they embody: self-determination, unity,
collective work and responsibility, cooperative economics, purpose,
creativity and faith. These seven (7) principles are meant to be a
foundation and guide upon which the African diaspora can build a
strong, successful and fulfilling life while maintaining a connection
to their roots.
While not religious, the principles of Kwanzaa are meant to
instill a strong sense of spirituality in individuals. Kwanzaa seeks to
instill spirituality upon which individuals can build self-confidence
and secure self-identity through a link to their roots.
This sense of spirituality and connection to one’s history, roots
or ancestry is also an element of similarity between Kwanzaa and
Hanukkah.

It seems that each year, the holidays bring not only fun and family gathering but they bring financial stress as well. To head off this stress, it is a good idea to plan a Christmas budget now during the fall months, so that when the holiday shopping is in full swing, you won’t be stressing out over overspending.

There are many categories of holiday purchases that we all make every year. It is a good idea to make your holiday budget comprehensive enough to include all the ways that you spend money on holiday preparations and Christmas related purchases. Here are a few ideas about how to set up your Christmas Budget.

Start early – ideally you should start in January for each holiday season. Many of us don’t think about Christmas that early. If you are like most of us, October is when we start to think about the winter holidays. If you do start early, you can take advantage of those after Christmas sales to make purchases of holiday stables like ornaments, gift-wrap, and party supplies.

Make sure you sock some holiday savings away each month throughout the year so that you can have a Christmas Spending account that won’t dig into your regular household account during the holidays. The last thing you want is to take money away from paying your monthly bills in order to buy presents.

You can open a Christmas Club account at most financial institutions including credit unions that you can designate an amount such as $25, or $50 to come out of your paycheck each month and deposited into this Christmas fund. You can even set up auto-transfer for each pay period.

Shop for Christmas year-round. There are many sales events that you can take advantage of throughout the year, saving you money.

Make up a master-shopping list for Christmas that includes each person you need to buy gifts for along with some gift ideas. Keep this in your wallet or purse all year, so that you can refer to it while passing sales items.

Don’t forget about the values you can find online. You can comparison-shop to discover what stores have the best deals. When actually making purchases online, don’t forget to take shipping into consideration when comparison-shopping for price.

Major stores will often have Internet discounts that are just for their online customers, so check Websites of stores that you frequent most often for these deals.

Save money by baking or making presents for relatives who may appreciate the extra thoughtfulness of these personal gifts.

There may be some people on your list who really do not need or want more “things”, but may be happy with the gift of time (running errands for them, or doing yard work, or household chores).

Keep a pocket notebook handy all year and jot down in it whenever someone mentions something they need, or something they see that they would like. When you notice sales events of these items you can then purchase them at a savings. This handy notebook will also assure you that you are indeed buying gifts that the recipients will truly enjoy getting.

Nothing spoils the holidays faster than a miserable trip getting there, so taking the time to plan your trip just may be the very thing that keeps it happy. Here are some tips to planning your trip.

Save money by contacting a travel agent well in advance of your departure date. The lowest-priced fares, hotel rooms and rental car fees can be obtained by securing them far in advance of the holiday season.

Pack light to save energy, time and money. You also should check with your particular airline as some will place special restrictions on carry-ons during the holiday season because of the higher demand for space.

Save on airline space by shipping your gifts instead of taking them with you. Allow at least two to three weeks for your package to arrive at your destination because both Federal Express and UPS are busy during the holidays.

Make sure that before you leave on your holiday trip, your home, plants, and pets are secure and well cared for. Pet sitters will often times care for the plants and home as well, so they are a good investment and will give you peace of mind.

Don’t forget to have someone collect the mail and newspapers so that it won’t look like no one is home at your house. You should have your lights set on timers so that they come on at different times. Check to be sure that you locked all windows and doors and turned off the oven and stove before leaving. Do NOT leave any message on your answering machine or voicemail that indicates you are leaving for a trip.

Avoid peak travel days at the airport like the day before or the day after a holiday. Book your flight two days before a holiday. Try to book a non-stop flight if possible.

If you have an early flight, consider sleeping over at an airport hotel the night before and taking an airport shuttle right from the hotel to the airport the next day.

If traveling by car always have the car serviced by a certified mechanic. Make sure they check the fluid levels, brakes, tire pressures, and any other car part that needs regular maintenance. Bring along jumper cables, extra fluids, maps, first aid kit, flashlights, blankets, water, snacks, flares, ice scraper, chains for the tires and also a cell phone.

Traveling with kids by car or air means bringing snacks and something to keep them busy like games, toys or music. If they will be sleeping during the trip bring blankets and pillows.

Good planning is essential for a safe and happy holiday trip so take the time to plan.

You can’t seem to avoid the holiday traveling if you have a large extended family. There are always get-togethers at Grandma’s or holiday dinners at Uncle Ed’s. Getting to these holiday functions requires smart traveling planning and knowing some good traveling tips can come in handy.

Flying:

If you are flying you will need to be prepared for security rules. Time can be wasted if you are not prepared ahead of time for what you can and cannot take onboard the flight. Also, know what is allowed to be carried onboard with you.

As you approach boarding sections you will need to take out laptops as you get near the scanner. Getting it out ahead of time will save time and aggravation as others will not want to wait as you fumble around your belongings trying to locate your laptop. It is important to pay attention as you come to the other side of the scanner, so that you pick up your laptop and not someone else’s.

Holiday traveling with gifts has some special precautions as well when it comes to the security gates. Do not spend the time or money wrapping your gifts in gaily colored wrap because you will have to unwrap them in front of the guards. To avoid hassle, either wait until you arrive at your destination to wrap them, or mail them separately to arrive at your destination. Mailing them separately could also save you money if they would have put you overweight on the baggage (have to pay a fee for that).

Time

Give yourself plenty of extra time so that you arrive at the gate before you need to. This way if there are extra security checks you won’t be late for your flight. Checking in always takes longer than you expect. A good rule is to be at the airport an hour before domestic flight times and 2 hours before international flight departure time.

There is not much you can do about snowstorms and other weather delays but booking early in the day flights will give you time to arrange other options for coping with these delays like booking later flights or making other travel arrangements in order to fix the situation and still arrive at Christmas dinner on time.

Always check the status of your flight in advance of arriving at the airport. You can check the status of your flight on the Airline Website. You can usually sign up for automatic flight status notification right on the Website. You can be notified by text message on your cell phone or PDA.

That Airport Website comes in handy when it comes to knowing where the nearest place to eat is at the airport and how close it is to your departure gate. Sometimes if you have a lengthly delay you might even find that your airport has a spa.

Always know what the plan is for once you arrive at your destination. Is someone picking you up, is there transportation arranged ahead of time like a rental car? Make sure that you have a printout of your driving directions to the hotel or other destination so that you don’t get lost once you get there.

Car:

Did you know that car travel is the most popular way to travel during the holidays? 83% of traveling during the holiday season is done by car.

Long car rides especially can be challenging at anytime of year but put in a couple of excited youngsters and you may have some extra need for patience and organizational skill.

Here are a few tips for making your holiday car travels run smooth.

Involve the little ones in the planning stage so that they will look forward to seeing something that they helped to plan.

Include some kid-friendly stops along the way so that everyone will have a chance to stretch their legs and have fun at the same time.

Allow for extra travel time just in case there are traffic jams, or weather related road conditions that slow you down.

Limit your road time to just 6 to 8 hours of driving time per day and have two drivers in the vehicle so that you can switch every two hours. Switching will make long drives easier.

Never make a rest stop when children are sleeping. Driving during sleep times allows for you to make the most headway because you won’t have to make any stops.

Pack a cooler with snacks and wipes for cleaning up before and after eating. Place the cooler between kids in the back seat so that they feel like they have their own space. The top of the cooler makes a cool place to play with cars and trucks too.

During Christmas and the holiday season, the festive spirit and relaxed
mood even extends into the workplace where the pace is likely to slow
considerably as the volume of work is lessened. By having parties at work,
everyone can unwind a bit, have some fun and enjoy the satisfaction from the
results of a year of hard work. Colleagues at work can celebrate goals that have
been accomplished and look forward to an even more rewarding year.
Parties at work during Christmas and the holidays may include a voluntary
gift exchange and individuals have to make a decision whether or not they will
participate in it. In a situation where an individual may not know other
colleagues very well and is unsure what Christmas present to give, it may be
better to opt out of exchanging gifts. If the party and gift exchange is among a
fairly large group, such as company-wide or of several departments, it may not
be noticed if someone doesn’t participate in the gift exchange. If it’s a small
group however, it is likely to be noticed. To eliminate the possibility of any
negative talk regarding non-participation, it would likely be better to be among
those agreeing to exchange gifts.
A basic thing to remember in selecting gifts for Christmas gift exchanges
at work, which are usually called Secret Santa, is to not choose anything that
could be considered inappropriate or offensive. Although the sender won’t be
revealed, it won’t leave a good feeling and it will become the topic of
conversation among everyone.
Separate from the ‘Secret Santa’ Christmas gift exchange at work, it may
also be a good gesture to give Christmas presents, which can be small tokens or
even just candies or treats, to colleagues in a division or department if you
are the respective leader or manager. Such a gesture shows thoughtfulness and
that the work of individuals has been appreciated. It will be a good note on
which to end the year and to start a new one.
Another important thing to observe during Christmas parties at work is
good behavior that is considered casual but still business-like. Although there
will be much fun and laughter, it will still be occurring within a work
environment or within the parameters of work. So, individuals will still be
observed by their colleagues. It is of utmost importance to be careful about how
much drinking is done, or how much alcohol is consumed, because drunken or any
offensive behavior will not be tolerated and could have negative repercussions
on one’s career.
The consideration of good etiquette is also something to be remembered and
observed at holiday parties at work. As examples, talking and laughing with food
in one’s mouth, emptying a platter of delicious hors d’ouevres or bagging
candies, cookies or treats to take home are all considered poor etiquette.
A Christmas party at work can also provide an opportunity to have a brief
conversation with supervisors, managers and other company officials whom one may
not come in contact with frequently. It can be the ideal time to leave a good
impression on a key decision maker. By introducing yourself and striking up a
conversation, it is also putting a face to a name or making yourself known and
standing out among fellow colleagues. For those who are strivers and who want to
advance such interactions at work holiday and Christmas parties can be
beneficial and advantageous.
It’s therefore important to keep in mind that while Christmas parties at
work are fun, there are still ways to inconspicuously seek some benefit while
you laugh and enjoy a break from the stress, competitiveness and daily routine
of work.

It can be very satisfying to cater to friends, families and loved ones
during the Christmas holidays. Taking the time to share food, fun and laughter
in a happy, jovial manner truly embraces the spirit of Christmas.
In deciding to have a party at home, one of the first things to consider
is whether it will be formal or informal. Among the key things that need to be
considered are the number of people to attend, the menu, the preparation of food
and arrangement of decoration that is attractive and has themes for the
holidays. It’s also important to make a note of how much, if any, help will be
available from friends or family members.
A formal Christmas party likely would include a small number of people –
not more than 12 and likely fewer – who would be seated at a table for the
duration of the meal. It means that place settings and seating have to be done
and a decision made on whether the meal will be a three- or four-course dinner.
The advantage of a formal dinner is that it is very organized, it has a
known content and everyone around the table usually engages in pleasant
conversation. It also usually provides a good opportunity to get to know and
hear from everyone present without having to initiate any small talk, which some
people are not comfortable doing.
As the host of a formal dinner, you will also have the responsibility of
keeping the meal flowing smoothly by having each course brought out at the
perfect timing and to also be aware of any special needs that a guest may have.
In contrast, an informal Christmas party at home is organized in a
different manner and does not have the predictability of a formal one. The fun
and festive spirit of an informal holiday party comes from groups of people who
mill around, move about freely to have conversations, laugh and enjoy munching
on Christmas treats, goodies and other foods.
Despite the easy, fun-filled atmosphere, it is necessary to plan the use of
space and to think about the area that people will use or wander around. Making
such a plan will facilitate contact between partygoers so that the party spirit
will pervade everywhere and put participants in a livelier mood.
Another consideration to make for an informal Christmas party among friends and
family is if children will be present and about their ages, if they are allowed
to attend. Children, even older ones, always need careful supervision. If
children are going to attend a holiday party at home, arrangements should be
made for adequate supervision of them and special activities should also be
provided that can occupy their attention.
An important feature that must be a part of a festive Christmas party at home is
the right mix of music. In selecting Christmas music, consideration should be
given to what will be played at the start of the party as guests are welcomed
and introduced to each other, the songs that can be played later to inject or
enhance liveliness and later to create the right mood as the partygoers bid
farewell with ‘Merry Christmas’ or ‘Happy Holidays.’
Along with the music, Christmas decorations and even the food can also help to
enliven a Christmas party at home. Food that is interesting because it looks
‘pretty’ due to the color palette of items, infuses a mellow feeling among
guests and adds an intangible element to the level of enjoyment and excitement
of the partygoers.
Christmas parties at home can also be personalized with special cookies, treats
and dishes that are ethnic. The presence of some ethnic food, but not an
overwhelming quantity, which isn’t frequently enjoyed by guests will be
different and will add something that is unique to the host. And that is a part
of what a Christmas or holiday party at home is about. It’s to entertain family,
friends and acquaintances with a personal style while all enjoy some merriment
in the season of goodwill and good cheer.
